When I received my cystic fibrosis (CF) diagnosis almost ten years ago, it triggered significant apprehension about how this disease would affect my future health. This concern heavily influenced how I perceived navigating life growing older with CF. I found that discussing my fears with loved ones, friends, and others in the CF community, along with proactively planning for the future, has been a beneficial coping strategy. While there may never be a need to implement some of these plans, the sense of empowerment I gained from having a degree of control is profoundly reassuring.
Drawing attention to National Healthcare Decisions Day in April is rooted in my experience. Navigating healthcare decisions and planning for the future encompasses various facets when living with a disease like CF, spanning from immediate health considerations to long-term strategies. It's a journey that requires diligence, determination, and a supportive community to accompany us.
This April, I invite you to join me at the CF Senior Saturday Meet & Greet, where we'll engage in meaningful dialogue about healthcare planning for the future. Together, we'll navigate these complex topics, transforming them into manageable, enlightening experiences. I'm thrilled to announce that Dr. Anna Georgiopoulos will be our special guest speaker, sharing her invaluable expertise. Get ready to feel inspired, informed, and empowered as we look to the future together.
