As we bid farewell to 2023, it's a perfect time to reflect on the discussions and connections made at CF Senior Saturday Meet & Greet meetings. Each month brought new insights, shared experiences, and a sense of community, making every gathering special. Here is a recap from this past year.
January: Looking Forward and Planning
The year started with the group sharing what they were looking forward to most, their top concerns, and their hopes for future meetings. It was a time of anticipation, setting the stage for a year filled with connections and growth.
February: Well-Being and Importance of Self-Care
We explored the crucial topic of well-being and the significance of self-care, recognizing the unique needs of individuals with cystic fibrosis. The discussion sparked a collective commitment to prioritize our personal health, both physical and emotional health.
March: Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
March marked a poignant month as we raised awareness about colorectal cancer. Members of the group courageously shared personal stories, emphasizing the importance of early detection. We also highlighted the additional annual health screenings relevant to our unique journey of aging with cystic fibrosis.
April: National Healthcare Decisions Day
April brought a thoughtful conversation about the importance of our healthcare preferences. Attendees were encouraged to prioritize what truly matters in their healthcare journey. The group was inspired to proactively approach advanced care planning and to discuss it with
their CF Care Team.
May: National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month
As May arrived, our focus shifted to increasing awareness about aging with cystic fibrosis. We discovered ways to connect, communicate, and collaborate, creating a united front to raise awareness of the issues the growing aging CF community faces.
June: Summer Break
July: Summer Fun and Preparedness
July was lively, discussing summer activities, vacations, medical appointments, and the importance of preparing for unexpected events. The meeting became a space to share tips, stories, and excitement for the summer season.
August: Virtual Hobby Hangout
In August, we explored the world of hobbies, virtually connecting to share and explore the things we love to do and are passionate about. It was a delightful session showcasing our community's diverse interests.
September: "Defying Perceptions, Defining Our Future"
September sparked conversations about reshaping our perspectives on aging with cystic fibrosis. Members exchanged insights about their lifelong wellness journey, fostering a collective mindset of embracing and celebrating every stage of life.
October: Guest Speaker - CFF Compass
A highlight of the year was the guest speaker session, where CFF Compass discussed Medicare open enrollment and upcoming changes. This valuable information empowered our community to navigate the evolving landscape of healthcare.
November: National Gratitude Month
November brought a heartwarming session as we collectively reflected on and appreciated the positive aspects of our lives. The meeting celebrated gratitude, inspiring each other with stories of resilience and joy.
December: 2nd Annual - Cookies & Cocoa Holiday Event Celebration
We came together to celebrate the close of 2023 with the second annual Cookies & Cocoa event. It was a festive celebration filled with warmth, laughter, and a sense of camaraderie that encapsulated the spirit of the holiday season.
Looking back at 2023, it was a year defined by connections and shared experiences for all in the group. Each month, we contributed to a collective story. CF Senior Saturdays has become more than just monthly meetings; it is an Aging with CF movement.
